The album, titled u201cIsolationu201d was released on the 6th April through Virgin EMI. Featuring a stellar line-up of guests and collaborators including Jorja Smith, Damon Albarn, Tyler, the Creator, Thundercat, Tame Impalasu2019s Kevin Parker. r
u2018Isolationu2019 is, for Uchis, an u201copen journalu201d of an album, one that maps moments of self-discovery in song. It builds on the soul and doo-wop blueprint of Por Vida, her debut EP, to fully realise Uchisu2019 sound, aided by an impressive cast of peers. Bookended by the airy, flute-laced u2018Body Languageu2019, produced by Thundercat, and the immaculately orchestrated soul of u2018Killeru2019, recorded with The Dap-Kings in New York, it turns through R&B, on the stuttering beats and skanking guitar of u2018Miamiu2019, punctuated by a spot from BIA, by way of popping funk on u2018Just A Strangeru2019, made with her previous collaborator, Steve Lacy. Thereu2019s the metronomic electro-pop tick of u2018In My Dreamsu2019, recorded with Damon Albarn, reciprocating the two appearances Uchis made on their recent record and Tame Impalau2019s Kevin Parker lines u2018Tomorrowu2019 with a disco strut and melancholic synths. The mainstay influences of golden-era soul remain strong as well, here recalibrated to bemoan infidelity on u2018Foolu2019 and rail against corporate vampires on u2018Teeth In My Necku2019. r
